Intense Pulsed Light Technology

Using Intense Pulsed Light Technology and a specific wavelength, we are able to target hair beneath the surface of the skin. This treatment will reduce the amount of hair, reduce ingrown hairs and give you an overall smoother appearance.

The treatment feels like a snap or flick on the skin. We are able to treat most areas you have a concern with hair. Treatment is effective for light brown to black hair. Hair that is lacking pigment such as blonde, grey, white or red is not treatable. This treatment is safe for skin types 1 – IV and has no downtime.

Treatment packages are customized based on the amount of hair. Most areas require 6 – 9 treatments with some areas needing more treatments. Maintenance treatments are recommended as needed.

What does treatment feel like and is it painful?

Treatment feels like a snap or flick on the skin. You may feel some warmth similar to a mild sunburn. The applicator has a cooling feature built in to make the treatment as comfortable as possible. More sensitive areas such as the upper lip may be less comfortable. Please let your Treatment Provider know how you are feeling and settings will be adjusted accordingly.

How long is each treatment?

Depending on the area of concern, treatments range from 15 – 30 minutes.

How many treatments are needed?

Depending on the area, 6 – 9 treatments are recommended.

How often do I need to do treatments?

Treatments on the face are done 4 weeks apart and treatments on the body are done 8 weeks apart.

When will I see results and are they permanent?

You will see results as the hair starts to grow back thinner and finer with each treatment. You should see about a 50% reduction halfway through your treatments. Maintenance treatments are done as needed. Usually about once a year.

What results are expected?

We anticipate a 70%+ reduction of treatable hair in the area, reduction of ingrown hairs and a smoother appearance.

Who is a good candidate?

Patients with light brown to dark black hair that is coarse.

Is it safe for all skin types?

These treatments work best for light to medium skin tones. It can work on darker skin tones but there is a higher risk of discoloration as there is more pigment present.

Is there any downtime?

There is no downtime with this treatment. You may experience the feeling of a mild sunburn on the treatment area, this can last anywhere from a few hours to a full day.

Do I need to do anything after my treatment?

You may apply sunscreen and make-up post treatment. Avoid the gym and hot showers for 2 days after your treatment. Use a gentle cleanser and non-irritating skincare. Avoid Retinols, AHAs and BHAs 3 days before and 3 days after your treatment. Avoid tanning and self-tanners while you are doing treatments.


Patients should not be treated if they are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to become pregnant.
If patients are taking any medications that make them light sensitive, or if they have a disease that is stimulated by heat or light, that can be a contraindication.
Patients should wait to do treatment if they have had any surgeries in the area within 3 – 6 months, cosmetic injections within the last 2 weeks or recent chemical peels or resurfacing treatments.
